Program Director
Dr. Iveta Jusová is Associate Professor of Women's Studies and Director of Antioch's Women's and Gender Studies in Europe program, which she has led since 2004. She received her Ph.D. in English and Cultural Studies, in 2000, from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio and her M.A. from Palacky University, Olomouc, the Czech Republic.
Dr. Jusová's research interests include Continental feminist philosophy, psychoanalysis, feminist epistemology, and post-colonial and global feminisms. Her book The New Woman and the Empire (the Ohio University Press, 2005) examines the ways in which late nineteenth-century British women writers approached national, racial, and ethnic difference.
Her articles on European women writers, actresses, and film directors have appeared in Women's Studies International Forum, Social Text, Tulsa Studies in Women's Literature, Theatre History Studies, Slavic and East European Journal, English Literature in Transition, Zadra: Pismo Feministyczne (in Polish), and Divadelní revue (in Czech). Her current research project examines the possibilities and challenges entailed in the present-day encounters between European feminist discourses and the growing immigrant population into Europe from former colonies.
As the WGSE Program Director, Dr. Jusová leads seminars in feminist theory and feminist methodology, guides the students' independent research projects, and evaluates their work. She also team-teaches the WGSE situated feminisms course with local feminist scholars and activists (see WGSE Affiliated Faculty below). She is assisted in her duties by Resident Coordinators in each country visited and by a Program Assistant, who is usually a program alumna/us.
