Program Description

Antioch Education Abroad has been sending students to study at Eberhard-Karls-Universität (Tübingen University) since 1958. The Antioch in Germany program encourages complete immersion while supporting the needs of American students abroad.

Emphasis is placed on pre-semester preparation, with four to eight weeks of language training at a Goethe Institute, followed by a four-week intensive orientation program through university's the German Compact Program. Students then spend one semester or one full year enrolled in regular courses at Tübingen University.  The Resident Directors also facilitate student independent research, extracurricular activities, internships, and/or part-time work.

In Tübingen, Antioch program participants study with German students in classes taught by German professors. They enroll in courses at any level for which the have the background, choosing from hundreds of courses. Advanced academic work is available in all disciplines and there are special opportunities for students of the theoretical and applied sciences.

Student confidence in, and exposure to, German language and culture is further reinforced by the special nature of the program's housing arrangements. Rather than placing students in international dormitories, the program ensures that participants live in German student houses where German is the language spoken.

Antioch in Germany is for students looking for independence, immersion and the opportunity to tailor aspects of their overseas studies to their own particular skills and interests. Students will learn what it is to live, work and study in Germany as Germans do.

Students have joined the program from such prestigious institutions as: Bennington College, Bryn Mawr College, Capital University, The College of William and Mary, Colorado State University, Cornell University, DePauw University, Dickenson College, George Washington University, Georgia State University, Goucher College, Hamilton College, Harvard College, Indiana University, Kenyon College, Lake Forest College, Mills College, Moravian College, Mount Holyoke College, Northwestern University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Princeton University, Swarthmore College, Trinity University, University of California - San Diego, University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, and Wabash College.
