In its heyday, the ancient university of Nalanda (located near Rajgir) attracted a galaxy of luminaries, sacred and secular, from many parts of the world e.g. China, Greece, Persia, etc. Sacked by Turks in the 12th century, Nalanda is all but a theater of dusty ruins today.
