Selecting a Program

We are excited about your interest in Antioch Education Abroad programs! We look forward to assisting you throughout the process of selecting, applying for, and participating in one of our many exciting study abroad opportunities.

When choosing a study abroad program, the plethora of options can seem overwhelming. There are several factors to consider when selecting a program:

Academic Plan, Academic Theme, Language, Country of Interest, Approved Program List

Academic Plan: Are there specific courses that you will need to take while abroad in order to complete the requirements for your major or for graduation? Your academic advisor should be able to help you map out which courses you may want or need to take while off-campus.

Most AEA programs offer a limited number of courses. These will be appropriate for students with an academic focus that matches our themes or a student who has a great deal of course flexibility in his/her academic plan. Our Antioch in Germany program, however, allows students to take any course offered by Tübingen University.

Academic Theme: Is there a particular academic theme that you would like to study while abroad? Which programs offer an academic concentration that fits your interests and/or major?

AEA Programs offer the following academic themes in the countries listed:

Language: Have you studied a certain language that you would like to practice during your time abroad? If so, which countries would help you achieve that goal? Are the study abroad programs available in those countries ones that group you together as Americans or ones that allow you to take classes and live with natives of that country?

AEA programs offer the following languages:

Country of Interest: Is there is specific country or region that you have been studying in school or that interests you?

AEA offers programs in the following countries:

Approved Program List: Does your home institution have a list of Approved Programs? If so, what are they? Does your home institution have a process for petitioning to participate in a non-approved program? These questions can best be answered by a study abroad advisor at your college or university.

AEA programs are approved at colleges and universities across the country. Even if your school does not pre-approve the AEA program that interests you, many students are successful at petitioning for approval. Let us know if you need special information for a petition process. Visit your Study Abroad Office for a list of Approved Programs at your institution.

Please contact AEA if you would like further information about our programs in order to help you select an appropriate program. We are also happy to discuss your academic plans and how our programs may fit into your academic and career goals. However, we strongly encourage you to also meet with both your study abroad advisor and your academic advisor.
