Health and Safety
We feel a deep sense of commitment and personal responsibility for each participant in our study abroad programs. AEA administrative staff, located in Yellow Springs, Ohio, is in continual communication with our program directors to respond to potential difficulties as they arise through a well-developed international network. We also monitor overseas conditions on a daily basis to ensure up-to-date, relevant information. Your sons’ and daughters’ safety is our primary concern.
Toward this aim, AEA staff has developed a set of incident response procedures and crisis prevention policies, which are adopted by onsite program directors, local staff and administrative staff in the Yellow Springs office. Students receive thorough orientation to all program sites. Students are also registered with local agencies upon arrival and are issued emergency contact information to keep with them at all times. In addition, field courses are periodically assessed to determine safety, and every reasonable precaution is taken regarding the purchase, preparation and consumption of local foods.
Program directors are highly experienced and are trained to respond effectively and immediately to incidents should they occur. Local staff, closely connected with the host communities, is available at all times to support program directors as needs arise. Moreover, the Yellow Springs staff is here to support you as parents as well, and we welcome any questions or concerns you might have prior to, during and after your sons’ and daughters’ participation in an AEA program.
