Antioch Education Abroad

Overview/Country Specific Info

The health and safety of each student is our primary consideration. In case of emergency, our response procedures and incident prevention policies are based on the best practices in the field of international education, as set out in our Emergency Action Plan. This Plan, which is reviewed and updated regularly, is adopted by onsite program directors, local staff, and administrative staff. Program directors are trained and experienced to respond effectively and immediately to incidents should they occur. In addition, local staff, closely connected with the host communities, is available at all times to support program directors as needs arise. AEA administrative staff, located in Yellow Springs, Ohio, is in continual communication with our program directors. We monitor overseas conditions on a daily basis to ensure up-to-date, relevant information and to respond to potential difficulties through a well-developed communication network.

As a part of orientation, we provide students with country-specific safety information, emergency contact information, and extensive acclimation to the program sites, along with teaching students how to best utilize these materials and resources. In addition, programs are regularly assessed to determine safety and up-to-date information is used regarding the purchase, preparation, and consumption of local foods. Also, AEA assists with registering all participating students with the U.S. State Department

At AEA, we care about students’ health and well-being. Our staff is more than willing to work with students to find the best suitable measures for handling any existing health conditions. We work to secure the best available access to health services and provide recommendations for obtaining prescribed medications during the program. In addition, we encourage students to maintain contact with primary care physicians prior to, during, and after participation in one of our programs, especially when pre-existing health conditions are a concern. AEA has experience dealing with students who have a variety of health situations. Feel free to contact us to discuss any concerns you may have.

Please check back this winter. We will soon provide country/program specific health and safety information.
